PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having antibacterial and carcinostatic activity by culturing a strain belonging to Pelagiobacter. SOLUTION: This new compound, a 2088A analogue compound, is expressed by formula I (R is an amino acid residue such as valyl, glycyl, leucyl or seryl, but excepting 3-hydroxyvalyl group). This compound, which belongs to Pelagiobacter, is obtained by culturing microbes having ability to produce 2088A analogue compounds in a medium to produce and accumulate the aimed 2088A analogue in the cultured product. Alternatively, this compound is obtained by binding an amino acid, through ester linkage, to the hydroxyl group of a compound of formula II. The strain to be used in the former production process is pref. Ni-2088 strain (Pelagiobacter variabilis Ni-2088) isolated from Pocockiella variegata, a kind of sea algae gathered in the Palau Islands. |
