PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of a sulfurous malodorous substance and to sufficiently decompose and remove a TOC component in the treatment of waste water containing an organosulfur compd. such as sulfoxides as a contaminant. SOLUTION: Hydrogen peroxide or ozone is allowed to coexist in org. waste water containing an organosulfur compd. such as sulfoxide and this waste water is irradiated with ultraviolet rays to decompose the organosulfur compd. such as sulfoxides to a form sulfonic acid (SO3 H-containing acid). Further, the waste water is irradiated with ultraviolet rays in the coexistence of hydrogen peroxide or biologically treated under an aerobic condition to sufficiently decompose and remove a TOC component. Since an organosulfur compd. such as sulfoxides is decomposed to sulfuric acid through sulfonic acid, decomposition treatment up to H2 O, CO2 and H2 SO4 becomes possible without generating a sulfurous malodor such as sulfides.
|
