METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DECODING MOVING IMAGE COMPRESSION CODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize deterioration in the image quality of a decoded image by aborting image area information decoded only from information of a current image independently of a reference image and generating the decoded image from the aborted image area and the image area not decoded due to an error from a reference image. SOLUTION: When an information source decoder body 11 detects the occurrence of an error in a GOB (group of block), input data up to a succeeding synchronization word are aborted. Till the error is detected, a macro block image stored to be decoded in the INTRA mode in an INTRA/INTER mode memory 14 is aborted in a macro block decoded. Then the image in the macro block not executing the decoding processing and a macro block aborted by the INTRA mode is generated from a reference frame image stored in a reference frame image memory 12. Then the image is stored in a current frame image memory 13 and the processing of the GOB whose error is detected is finished.
