<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the penetration of spacers into interlayer insulating film surfaces and to obtain a liquid crystal display device having a high display grade by forming these interlayer insulating films to the hardness which is the same as or higher than the hardness of spacer materials. SOLUTION: A matrix substrate is provided with plural pixel electrodes 4 in a matrix form. TFTs are formed as switching elements connected via contact holes to the pixel electrodes 4 near the intersected parts of gate wirings 1 and source wirings 2. The interlayer insulating films 9 are disposed to cover the upper parts of the TFTs. The spacing between the TFT substrate 10 and a counter substrate 11 are kept by the spacers. An acrylic resin having Rockwell hardness M90 is used as the interlayer insulating films 9. Polystyrene having Rockwell hardness M80 is used as the spacers 7. The interlayer insulating films 9 are thus formed to the hardness which is the same as or higher than the hardness of the spacers 7. As a result, the liquid crystal display device which is entirely free from coloration and has the high display grade is obtd. and the penetration of the spacers into the substrates does not arise. The fixed spacing between both substrates is thus maintained.</p> |
