The endface (7) of the join socket has a series of undercut holes to form an anchoring area along the annular anchoring sector set at a safe distance from the pipe bore (11), and the endstop (20) has one or more solid rubber buffers (21) matching the anchoring holes described (40). The holes taper outwards using anchoring elements (22) e.g. truncated cones or pyramids which are cast along with the pipe socket wall and continue into the buffers. The buffers have conical adapter faces (25) plus a retaining shoulder (26). Preferred tooling consists of mould with socket-similar wall and a series of plugs spread round to form the anchoring holes, or otherwise hold the hollow dowels acting as holes during the casting process.
