The container receiving and lifting device has a cage-like spreadable frame, consisting of a lower U-shaped frame (20,22,21) and an upper closed rectangular frame. The U-frame is composed of two chassis bearers (20,22). The bearers run horizontally in the direction of travel, and are of a length somewhat greater than the longitudinal extent of the container. The bearers each have wheels (11,12) on the free rear end. One of them has vertical extending supports (31,33,30,34) at front and rear.
