PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject monomer mixture useful for the production of a polymer for a synthetic resin optical material such as a transparent resin having light weight and excellent mechanical strength such as falling ball strength. SOLUTION: The objective bifunctionalα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester can be produced by esterifying (A) a dimer diol mixture composed of 99-60wt.% of a dimer diol produced by hydrogenating a dimer acid or a dimer acid ester comprising the dimer of an 11-22C higher unsaturated fatty acid or its lower alcohol ester and 1-40wt.% of an ether compound produced by the intermolecular dehydration reaction of the hydroxyl groups of the above dimer diol and/or an ester compound derived from the dimer diol and a corresponding dimer monocarboxylic acid monoalcohol ester with (B) anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid of the formula (R1 , R2 and R3 are each independently H or a 1-6C alkyl; R6 is H or a 1-8C alkyl).
