Welding plastics sheets

A method of welding plastics sheets together comprises the steps of: (i) preparing plastics sheets having edges to be bonded to each other, and a plastics joint having at least two weldable regions. The plastics joint also has a conductive linear member embedded in and extending along each weldable region from end to end; (ii) subsequently placing the edges of the plastics sheets onto the weldable regions of the joint; and (iii) finally supplying an electric current to the conductive linear members so as to heat and fusion bond each plastics sheet edge to the corresponding weldable region of the joint. Alternatively, the welding can be performed by mating the edges of the sheets by placing the edges of the plastics sheets onto each other. Also claimed is a joint made of plastics.
