PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sign written in a paper pattern from being blurred so as to permit the meaning and position of the sign to be unrecognized even at the time of reducing the paper pattern. SOLUTION: The shape of the paper pattern is reduced (S401) by an inputted reduction rate. When it is judged whether or not the code of the sign stored together with the paper pattern is a dot line and the dot line is judged (S402:Y), reduction is executed (S403) in the coordinates of a start point and an end point which are stored in RAM. Then, 'pitch×reduction rate' stored in RAM 3 is compared with a min. pitch. The dot line connecting the reduced start point to the reduced end point is generated (S407) with the pitch as the min. pitch(S405) when 'pitch×reduction rate' is smaller (S404:Y) or with the pitch as the 'pitch×reduction rate' (S406) unless 'pitch×reduction rate' is smaller (S404:N).
