Process for in situ decontamination of soil contaminated by aromatic and/or heteroaromatic compounds, comprises subjecting contaminated ground water to the action of anaerobic sulphate reducing microorganisms and then to the action of sulphur bacteria, after which it is collected and separated in the usual way.
