PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the loading of a magnetic head without deteriorating the magnetic characteristics and running properties by a method wherein the magnetic recording layer side surface of a magnetic recording medium has a contact angle against water not less than a predetermined value. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording layer side surface of a magnetic recording medium has a contact angle against water not, less than 85 deg. and less than 100 deg.. A wax layer is provided on the magnetic recording layer side surface and the binder of the magnetic recording layer contains acetyllose whose acetic acid value is not less than 1.8 and not more than 2.3. Further, the wax is carnauba wax and the coating thickness of the wax is so adjusted as to be 12-20mg/m<2> by a water/alcohol solvent.
