The disc drive system for mini disc cassettes is for use in road vehicles, and has a floating base unit (21) that is supported by elastic elements, on a chassis. Within the floating base is a carrier (7) that is free to move in the vertical direction. Within the carrier is a guide unit (14) that allows the insertion of the disc cassette. An electric motor provides a drive for the disc turntable, and an optical head is moved over the surface. The appropriate features within the base ensure that the guide unit does make contact with the disc turntable.
