HEAT-EXCHANGER AND TWO-STAGE DISTILLING COLUMN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-exchanger used as a condenser and a re-boiler to distribute liquid through a simple mechanism in such a way that a reservoir to receive first fluid and containing froth is arranged in a level higher than those of first and second passages and a series of orifices is arranged in the vicinity of a distribution tray. SOLUTION: Alternately arranged first and second passages 12 and 14 are partitioned between plates 10 to effect indirect transmission of heat between two fluids. By means of a containing corrugated fin material 34, the first and second passages 12 and 14 increase a surface area wide enough to allow allow transmission of heat between nitrogen steam and liquid oxygen. Liquid oxygen is guided to a liquid reservoir 50 placed on the first and second passages 12 and 14. A distribution tray 52 placed on first and second passages 12 and 14 in a reservoir 50 is provided with an orifice 54 to discharge a gas phase of froth 56 vaporized in the first passage 12, and the gas phase passes through liquid oxygen in the reservoir 50 to generate the froth 56.
