PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer which detects an amount of remaining ink when an ink cartridge is removed or attached. SOLUTION: This ink jet printer 1 is equipped with a remaining ink calculation section 7A which calculates an amount of remaining ink by subtracting the amount of ink calculated from the total amount of ink in an ink cartridge. Based on the use condition of the ink cartridge, a status display member 2b is formed in the body of the ink cartridge 2 which changes the shape into at least two statuses, when an ink cartridge 2 is mounted, a sensor 3b which detects the shape of the status displaying member 2b, an initialization judgment section 7B which decides whether the amount of ink counted in the remaining amount calculation section 7A is initialized or not on the basis of the shape of the status displaying member 2b detected by the sensor 3b. |
