PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass coating method for a metal material for a vitreous enamel substrate by which a glass coating layer having high dry strength after electrodeposition can be obtd. SOLUTION: When a glass powder is applied on a metal material for a vitreous enamel substrate by electrophoresis, the glass powder and at least one kind selected from metal salts of Al, Mg, Y, La and Ca by 1×10<-4> to 1×10<-2> mol/l, and hydroxyl ion by 0.2 to 4.0mol/l, and polyvinylbutylal by 0.2 to 20g/l are dispersed in a medium to prepare a suspension.
