The invention concerns an inflatable head-protection system comprising an airbag (6) which, in the non-inflated state, is provided at least partially along a vehicle body spar (1) or pillar such that it follows the course thereof. This airbag (6) is held by a separate deformation element (5) which takes the form of a shaped sheet metal part comprising at least one deformation bulge (5'), the airbag (6) substantially being housed between the deformation element (5) and the spar (1)/pillar. Optimum protection is thus ensured both statically and dynamically.
