PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decomposition method having a high decomposition ratio of an aromatic halogen compd. such as PCB when the aromatic halogen compd. is decomposed and detoxified and capable of easily removing salts produced from oil after treatment as byproducts and unreacted alkali. SOLUTION: An aromatic halogen compd. is dissolved in oil low in viscosity and having a high b.p. and heated to 300-400 deg.C in the presence of an alkaline substance and a high b.p. olefin compd. to be dehalogenated. As an example of the above mentioned aromatic halogen compd., there is polychlorobiphenyl(PCB). The alkaline substance is one or more kind of a compd. selected from hydroxide, carbonate and bicarbonate of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal and, as the high b.p. olefin compd., polybutadiene, 1-octadecene or 1-eicosene is used in an amt. of 0.01-10% by vol. of high b.p. oil. |
