PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound that has testosteroneα-reductase inhibitory activity and is useful for cure of prostatic hyperplasic and other diseases caused by action of the male sex hormone. SOLUTION: This new compound shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, a lower alkyl, etc.; X is a lower alkyl, OH, etc.; Y is O, methylene, etc.; R3 is 12C or lower alkyl, etc.; (n) is 2-4), e.g. 1-ethyl-5-(4-nitrobenzoyl)-3-(4- tetrahydropyranyloxy-1-butenyl)-1H-pyrrole, is obtained by reducing or deprotecting a compound of formula II (R5 is H, or an ester moiety; T is OH, an amino, a nitro, etc.; R8 is a 3-5C alkanoic acid or alkenoic acid, etc.).
