Production of steel material for producing high grade steel

The production of a steel material containing /}0.08 wt.%silicon comprises: (a) melting natural steel in a converter; (b) quenching in a steel casting pan; (c) adding slag formers; (d) alloying; (e) deoxidising with aluminium, silicon or calcium; (f) adjusting the casting temperature; (g) flushing with argon and/or nitrogen; (h) rinsing; and (i) vacuum treating. An elevated pan slag temperature is adjusted via an additional roasting of aluminium, silicon or calcium by adjusted higher amounts of dissolved oxygen in a fresh process in the converter and/or by adding bound oxygen.
