PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a disinfectant capable of being gradually washed away with the flow of water to exhibit the disinfectant effect by mixing a silver, copper, zinc or boron compound having the disinfectant effect with calcined gypsum and a water- absorbing inorganic or organic compound in a prescribed ratio and subsequently solidifying the mixture. SOLUTION: This disinfectant is obtained by solidifying a mixture comprising calcined gypsum (>70wt.%), the powder or granules of an inorganic or organic compound having a water-absorbing property for the calcined gypsum and contributing to lower the extent of hardening, when hardened in the coexistence of the calcined gypsum with water (6-40wt.%), and a silver, copper, zinc or boron compound or a mixture comprising two or more kinds of the compounds (3-40wt.% based on the calcined gypsum) with water. The disinfectant is gradually washed away with the flow of water only by being placed in one of various kinds of waterways, and is not fractured in the course of the washing. When brought into contact with an acidic or alkaline substance, the disinfectant does not generate an injurious gas, and is thereby safe. The disinfectant further has characteristics such as follows. The disinfectant does not corrode metal products, and the use life of the disinfectant is substantially not affected by a difference between the temperatures of water flows. |
