<p>This invention describes that apoptin fails to induce apoptosis in human normal cells. Besides, the invention describes that when normal cells are transformed, they become susceptible to the apoptin-induced apoptosis. The invention describes that apoptin induces in various human tumor cells a p53-distinct type of apoptosis, and cannot be blocked by a variety of apoptosis-inhibiting agents. The invention comprises an anti-tumor agent, which specifically kill tumor and not normal cells. It further provides the induction of cell death by means of gene therapy. Apoptin can induce apoptosis in non-human animal tumor cells. The invention also provides that in normal cells apoptin was found predominantly in the cytoplasm, while in tumor cells it was located in the nucleus. Besides, the invention comprises a diagnostic test for the determination of cell-transforming activity.</p> |
