PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert unreproduced color of an image to be outputted into a reproducible color and to avoid occurrence of deformed gradation by using a lightness difference decided definitely by lightness information of an original color. SOLUTION: Image color information is received (S401), and the image color information is converted into, e.g. an Lab coordinate (S402). Then whether or not the color is unreproduced color is discriminated (S403). When the color is discriminated to be an unreproduced color, the color information after conversion is decided by using a lightness difference decided definitely from the lightness of the original color with the same hue to obtain a color on a border line of a reproduced range ($404). Thus, the result of lightness of a desirable reproduced color = C×lightness of original color + D is obtained, where C, D are constants. At first, the constants C, D are decided and a lightness L2 of a reproduced light is obtained. Then the color coordinate of the L2 on the border line of the color reproducible range is obtained. Thus, the desirable reproduced color such as (L2, a2, b2) is obtained.
