PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a specific carbostyryl derivative having an effective antiinflammatory characteristic in addition to a bronchodilatation characteristic as aβ-agonist and useful for the treatments of inflammatory states including asthma. SOLUTION: 8-Hydroxy-5- (1R)-1-hydroxy-2-[N-(1N)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1- methylethyl)amino]ethyl}carbostyryl or its acid adduct, most preferably the hydrochloride of the carbostyryl compound. A medicine containing the compound is especially used for preventing acute asthmatic attacks, treating chronic or non-acute asthma, treating allergen-induced inflammations (e.g. dermatitis or rhinitis), etc. The medicine is suitable for local administrations such as inhalation, percutaneous administration and nasal administration.
