PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the wear resistance and molten zinc resistance, to give the crack resistance sufficiently born to severe heat cycle and to drastically extend the service life of a mold. SOLUTION: A mold for continuous casting is the one existing a nitrogen- containing coated layer containing at least one kind of nitride selected from groups composed of A1, 4A group elements, 5A group elements, 6A group elements and Fe on the surface of a mold base material. On the nitrogen- containing coated layer, the one containing Ti and/or Cr and the one having 5-20μm thickness are desirable.
