<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively manufacture a small sized optical isolator. SOLUTION: On optical surfaces of flat plate type base materials 341 and 381 of a magnetooptic element 34 and a polarizing element 38, metallic films which have light-beam transmission holes 42 arrayed and formed to as large as the diameter of a transmitted light beam are formed, the metallic films 40 are thermally treated while applied with specific pressing pressure to join both the flat plate base materials 341 and 381 together in one body, and the obtained united body 46 is cut rectangularly by the light-beam transmission holes 42 around them into optical element chips 44. An optical element chip 44 is inserted and arranged in the cylindrical permanent magnet 36 of a Faraday rotator 32 while having the optical surface slanted to the axis of the transmitted light to manufacture an optical isolator. Consequently, the number of holders for holding the magnetooptic element or polarizing element can be decreased to decrease the number of components and the man-hours for assembly, thereby making the optical isolator small-sized and reduce the manufacture cost.</p> |
