The support for a gravestone comprises an inclined support wall (4) for the stone panel. Two upwards opening clamps (6) are mounted on the lower end of the inclined wall so that the stone panel can be forcibly inserted and held in the clamps and applied against the wall. The clamps have a U shaped part (10) with a width corresponding to that of the panel. The U shaped part has slightly closed branches, one of which is slightly elastic. This free branch has two gripping holes enabling its widening by a tool. The clamps have a hook shaped part (11) which is inserted in support wall openings. A band (7) conceals the clamps.
