The compensator for a trailer with a single axle comprises a shaft (1) articulated about an axis (2) formed by a saddle (3) positioned on the trailer chassis (4). The shaft is positioned under the saddle by straps (5,6). In the front it has a yoke (7) which is connected to the tractor chassis (8) by spindles (9,10). The yoke is able to oscillate about the longitudinal axis of the shaft either freely or through a torsion bar (11) coupled to absorbers. The torsion bar passes through the shaft and is anchored in its rear part (12). The shaft is adjustable in length and slides in the straps. The distance between the cradle and the trailer axle (14) can be varied by sliding the saddle in its housing.
