The ventilation system has at least two gas filters (40) each with a rigid circumferential sealing frame with fixed elastic seal (42). Between the elastic seal of the filter and the rigid counter sealing face (46) of the gas filter housing (45) is an additional insert seal (50) comprising a metal plate support (51) with a thickness of at least 0.4 mm. The metal plate support has coating on each side of elastically deformable plastics. The insert seal has inwardly extending fixing vanes for use as an assembly aid. The elastic plastics coating is preferably made from elastomer such as closed pore foam rubber. The gas filter housing has a closable side door through which the filter and insert seal are inserted
