COMPOSITION AS STABILIZER FOR THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stabilizer system useful for improving the color and processing stability of an organic material by blendingα-tocopherol with a polyolefin carrier. SOLUTION: This system is a blend ofα-tocopherol and optionally other additives (desirably a stabilizing additive) (a) with a polyolefin carrier (b) and is applied to an organic material vulnerable to deterioration induced by heat, oxidation and/or light. The mixing ratio between both components is such that 20-80% component (a) and 80-20% component (b) are used. The ratio of theα-tocopherol to the other additives is usually about 1:10 to 10:1. The other additives are desirably polyethylene glycol, glycerol, phosphit, a thioester and a glyceride. The polyolefin carrier is desirably polyethylene or polypropylene. The organic material is desirably a synthetic polymer.
