PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefinic polymer or a copoly mer, capable of stably producing a highly crystalline polymer having high stiff ness. SOLUTION: Polymerization or copolymerization of an olefin is carried out by using a catalyst comprising combination of a solid catalyst component obtained by bringing a titanium compound into contact with a magnesium compound and an electron donor and reacting these components with an organosilicon compound represented by the formula, SiR<1> m (OR<2> )4-m [R<1> is a branched hydrocarbon group, a straight-chain hydrocarbon group or a cyclic saturated hydrocarbon group; R<2> is a straight-chain hydrocarbon group or a branched hydrocarbon group; (m) is a real number of 0-3], an organialuminum compound and an acetylene derivative represented by the formula, R<3> C≡CR<4> [R<3> and R<4> are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a silyl group containing a hydrocarbon group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group].
