摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to simply produce a monoester compound by a microbiological means by treating a diester such as an acrylate diester with the cells of a microorganism and/or its treated product. SOLUTION: A diester of formula [R is a 1-6C alkyl, a 2-6C alkenyl; (n) is 2, 4, 6] is treated with the cells or a microorganism and/or its treated product to obtain the monoester of formula II. The microorganism is preferably a microorganism belonging to the genus Brevibacterium such as Brevibacterium linens IFO 12141. The diester of formula I is treated with the microorganism e.g. by a method comprising mixing and reacting the diester of formula I with a cell suspension obtained by culturing the microorganism. The reaction is carried out in the solution containing the diester of formula I in a concentration of 0.1-10% at a temperature of 15-40 deg.C and at a pH of 5-10. The microorganism is preferably cultured at a pH of 6-8 at a temperature of 20-35 deg.C for 15-100hr under an aerobic condition.
