PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to easily carry out an immersing treatment of a base material for optical fibers, concretely an etching or a cleaning work by elaborating a plan to make a treatment device for immersing the base material for optical fibers smaller and reducing a conveying distance of the base material for optical fibers. SOLUTION: This treatment device for immersing a base material 1 for optical fibers has a vertical immersing vessel 3 which can put in and out the base material 1 for optical fibers in the radius direction and treats the base material for optical fibers with hydrofluoric acid by immersing therein and a means for putting the base material for optical fibers into the immersing vessel 3 from the radius direction of the base material for optical fibers and taking out the base material from the vessel. Thus, the height of the treatment device for immersing is remarkably reduced and the conveying distance of the base material for optical fibers is shortened, so the base material for optical fibers can be easily removed from the treatment device for immersing in hydrofluoric acid and production efficiency can be remarkably improved.
