PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mat excellent in handleability, water permeability, insect pest-repelling effect useful for protection of hay rack, tree, etc., from hogweed, etc., by having voids between bark fiber and polyester fiber. SOLUTION: This mat forms voids 4 by entwining between, preferably, 80 to 95 pts.wt. of the fibers of the bark 2 (A) obtained by grinding the bark of a Japanese cedar or a Chamaecyparis obtusa and preferably 20 to 5 pts.wt. of polyester fibers 3 having, for example, 10 to 1000μm of diameter and 5 to 90mm of length. This mat has holes perforated in the thickness direction, mounted to cover a top soil or a surface of a foundation bed to breed a plant. Or preferably placed in the foundation bed to breed a plant in a depth so that root parts of a plant can reach.
