PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the automatic paper feeder which minimizes the deviation of the tip end periphery of the medium from the first line of printing by means of a kicker device compact in structure, and inexpensive in price. SOLUTION: Since the automatic paper feeder comprises take-out tires mounted on the shaft for selectively moving the sheet shaped medium out of a stacked body, a kicker 76 holding the medium over the stacked body at a fist position, and a cam mounted on the shaft for biasing the kicker 76 from the first position to a second position, the cam 72 is engaged with the medium over the stacked body during the period of a part of a rotation cycle, and furthermore the kicker 76 is pushed out to the second position so as to enable the medium to be brought into contact with the respective take-out tires. Furthermore the couterclockwise rotation is kept on, after one sheet of the medium has completely passed through the kicker 76, it is made possible that whole of the medium remaining over a separation pad 82 can thereby be pushed back to the stacked body by the restoring force of the kicker 76 to an original position.
