IMAGE DATA PROCESSING UNIT AND ITS METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the image data processing unit in which production of an overflow is effectively suppressed without deteriorating the image quality. SOLUTION: Macro block data S101 obtained by dividing a video signal is given to a discrete cosine transformation(DCT) section 102, where the data are DCT-processed, and a binary search section 104 obtains a minimum quantization index at which DCT coefficient S103 has an object code amount or below. In this case, the binary search section 104 obtains a minimum quantization index where coded data has an object code amount or below among a plurality of quantization indices being a plurality of maximum and identical indices by the binary search method.
