<p>A velocity calculating apparatus (10) includes an acceleration sensor (12) for detecting acceleration in the direction in which a motor vehicle travels. The acceleration sensor (12) is connected to a CPU (16) through an A/D converter (14). The CPU (16) is connected to a GPS-signal receiver (18, 20) through a digital converter (22), and is also connected to a memory (26).
