PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp with its long service life in which lamp triggering characteristics can be improved without using an auxiliary electrode at an end of the luminescent tube, merely by attaching a main electrode, and by combination with an internal starter to which at least a discharge gap is connected, manufacturing is facilitated, triggering is easily possible, triggering can be easily performed by ionization and. excitation action of a discharge gap, and discharge in the external bulb is hardly generated. SOLUTION: A starter in which a pair of main electrodes 2a and 2b are sealed on both ends of a luminescent tube 1, a serial circuit with a triggering resistance 4, a bi-metal switch 5, and a glow discharge tube 5 is connected in parallel to the luminescent tube 1, and a decrease current resistance 7 and a discharge gap 8 are connected in parallel respectively to a serial circuit with the triggering resistance 4 and the bi-metal switch 5 is constituted to be held in an external bulb having a metal base at one end and sealing a simplex or a mixture of nitrogen, neon, argon, krypton, or xenon gas. |
