Anti-theft gearing for vehicle steering column

The steering column comprises a gear wheel (22) which is fixed to the column shaft (10) to rotate about their common axis (A1). The anti-theft device comprises a pinion (18), with axis (A2) parallel to that of the column, which rotates on a movable support (20). The support can move between pinion disengaged and engaged positions with the gear wheel. A pinion immobilizer locks the column shaft rotation about its axis when the pinion is meshed with the gear wheel. The immobilizer comprises a friction device one component of which rotates with the pinion and its other component rotates with the pinion support.
