PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To approximate the spring characteristics of a synchronizing type mass damper installed to a building simply to ideal linear type spring characteristics extreme ly at low cost. SOLUTION: An auxiliary spring 10 having a fixed spring constant ks is arranged at a right angle in the relative displacement direction in mounting width H and the quantity of initial strainδ0 while being compounded with elastic bodies 8 being interposed between a building 6 and added mass 4 and absorbing relative displacement (x) in the horizontal direction, and set up to both bodies. The auxiliary spring 10 is formed in natural length at the point of displacement x1 , where the spring characteristics Q=F(x) of the elastic body 8 and ideal linear type spring characteristics R=g(x) are equalized, and the spring constant ks, mounting width H and the quantity of initial strainδ0 are determined so that the extreme value of the horizontal component force P of the elastic restoring force P=-ks.δof the auxiliary spring and the point of displacement thereof coincide with the extreme value of offset spring characteristics S=-(R-Q) offsetting the difference of spring characteristics Q and ideal linear type spring characteristics R and the point of displacement thereof x2 (0<x2 <x1 ).
