PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink feed apparatus which can feed a solid ink to a carriage without interrupting a recording operation, thereby performing smooth recording and a printer having the ink feed apparatus. SOLUTION: A heating tank 19 is set between an ink feed part 10 holding a solid ink 16 and a carriage 14. The heating tank 19 holds and heats the solid ink 16, thereby softening the ink. During a recording operation, when the amount of ink remaining in an ink tank 14D of the carriage 14 becomes not larger than a predetermined value set beforehand, the softened solid ink 16 is supplied to an ink-dissolving part 14A of the carriage 14 and promptly liquified, so that the recording is continued. |
