PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a desulfurized hydrocarbon gas for a fuel battery at ordinary temperature by using a small apparatus by bringing a hydrocarbon gas into contact with a modified zeolite prepared by heat-treating a binder-less zeolite A or X and impregnating the treated zeolite with Mn, Fe, Ni, Pt or the like or an NaX or CaX zeolite having a specific pore diameter under specified conditions. SOLUTION: A hydrocarbon gas is borough into contact with a desulfurizer being a modified zeolite prepared by heat-treating a binder-less zeolite containing 95-100wt.% crystalline zeolite A of X having first macropores and micropores at 500-1,200 deg.C to form the second macropores and 90-95wt.% crystalline zeolite having micropores and impregnating the treated zeolites with a metal such as Mn or Fe or an NaZ or CaX zeolite having a pore diameter ofÅor ablve. The conditions of contact of the hydrocarbon gas include a temperature of 0-50 deg.C, a pressure of 1-10kg/cm<2> and a gas flow rate (in terms of GHSV) of 10-95×10<3> h<-1> . |
