MAC ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a MAC address assignment method in which a transmission efficiency of a network is improved without the need for a special server or the like in the case of obtaining a MAC address, a response of data transfer is improved and the assignment is executed even in a network for distributed management. SOLUTION: A specific bit string in an IP address by which each equipment is identified uniquely in a network is assigned to a MAC address. In the case of making communication on an ATM cell basis, the specific bit string in an IP packet source/destination address by which each equipment is identified uniquely in the network is extracted and the bit string is assigned to the VPI/ VCI.
