PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial solid composition having excellent water solubility and water penetrability by including oxolinic acid (5-ethyl-5,8-dihydro-8- oxo-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-g]quinoline-7-carboxylic acid) and a hydrate. SOLUTION: This composition comprises the tight mixture of oxolinic acid with at least one kind of hydrate selected from organic acid salt hydrates and inorganic acid salt hydrates. The oxolinic acid has a mol.wt. of 261, a melting point of 314-316 deg.C (decomposition), and crystalline and antimicrobial properties, and is contained in an amount of 0.1-50 wt.%. The organic acid salt hydrates include sodium acetate hydrate, and the inorganic acid salt hydrates include disodium hydrogenphosphate hydrate. The hydrate is contained in an amount of 50-99.9 wt.%, and preferably prepared in a powdery or granular form having an average particle diameter of 50-100μm. The solid composition can easily be handled, can improve safety, and is useful as a medicine for animals, especially as an antimicrobial agent for fishery.
