PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial fiber without causing rusting problems by applying a quaternary ammonium salt containing an organic acid anion as a counter anion to fibers in an oiling step after spinning and drawing. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial fiber comprises a quaternary ammonium salt containing an organic acid anion as a counter anion. The antimicrobial fiber is obtained by adding and mixing the quaternary ammonium salt, represented by the formula [R1 R2 (CH3 )2 N]<+> (R1 and R2 are each an 8-18C alkyl) and containing an organic acid anion such as a carboxylate as the counter anion, e.g. didecyldimethylammonium adipate as an antimicrobial agent into an oil agent composition and applying the resultant composition to fibers in an oiling step after wet spinning an acrylonitrile-based polymer and drawing the obtained fibers. The antimicrobial agent is applied in an amount of >=0.05 and <=5.0 wt.% based on the fibers thereto. |
