<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the responsiveness of ABR flow control by setting an absolute speed value according to cell queue length in an exchange. SOLUTION: An originating source system 10 generates a data cell 12 together with a forward RM cell 14. These cells are transferred to their destination system 22 by one or more exchanges (exchange nodes) 26 in a network. The system 22 consumes the data cell, converts the forward RM cell 20 into a backward RM cell 18 and returns it to their system 10 via an ATM network 24. The exchange 26 writes network congestion information to the forward and/or backward RM cells. The system 10 adjusts its own sell transmission speed according to congestion information included in a cell after receiving the backward RM cell 16. Here, the exchange 26 converts the number of cells in a cell queue, gets a cell speed value about a connection that passes through an out link that is related to the cell queue and sets an ER field of an RM cell of the connection in response to the cell speed value.</p> |
