Method for gathering of invoicing information regarding an Internet user's use of the Internet. The method involves organising a routing table in an Internet router, which contains an array of destination address regions and an array corresponding to the following jump nodes. Each address region in the routing table is given a cost category pertaining to the route by which a packet must go to a particular address within the region. When a data packet is received from the network user, the destination address of the packet is identified by the router. In this way the router determines, from the routing table, the corresponding cost category. A corresponding calculator for the cost category in the router is then incremented. <IMAGE>
