The invention concerns a key for a cylinder lock, the flat sides of the key having longitudinal ribs and/or grooves running in the direction in which the key is inserted into the keyhole. The key is characterized in that at least one of the flat sides of the key also has at least one groove (18, 19, 20) which is shorter than the shaft (2) of the key and which is inclined at an angle to the direction (3) in which the key is inserted into the lock.
