The covering has two main surfaces (2,3) one of which rests on the surface to be covered. The covering has two lateral surfaces (5) defining a junction line (6,7) with each main surface. There are drainage channels (12) hollowed out in the lateral surfaces. One of the lateral surfaces has a section perpendicular to the main surfaces having a portion at an angle (9) extending over a height greater than 1 cm and less than or equal to half the distance between the main surfaces from and along the junction line. This angled portion is inclined toward the junction line in the direction of the width reduction of the covering. It is adapted so that the space between it and a lateral surface opposite another adjacent covering element can be filled with filling material during placing on the ground.
