Process to remove carbon dioxide from respiratory gases in medical esp. anaesthetic application

The process selectively removes CO lambda 2 from a medical respiratory return system by a molecular sieve. Before use, the molecular sieve is pre-conditioned for the application by a specific gas mixture. Following use, it is re-conditioned to render it fit for renewed service. A moisture is removed from the gas by a moisture-exchanger, pref. in close proximity to the patient in the respiratory inlet/outlet branch before passing through the CO lambda 2 absorber, and returned to the gas before it is again inhaled. The molecular filter material is held in a temperature-resistant, easily removable vessel in which it is enclosed, stored, conditioned and used.
