Archimedean screw propulsive wheel

The spirally wound blade of the screw forms a single turn and is fitted round a straight axis. Its angle of rise and height are of the second order. The spiral blade is fixed to the axis. The screw wheel has bearings at each end in which it can turn. Such screws are commonly used as conveyors, but the proposal is to use them to drive craft travelling on water. The screw may be used like a propeller with the axis extending fore and aft.
